Spotlight on Wigan & Leigh College
Meet the Employer Recruitment Event – A Big Success
Wigan & Leigh College held it’s second Meet the Employer Event on 30th June and saw an increase in employers attending from the inaugural event in April.
With the success of the April event attracting so many young people wanting to find out more about apprenticeships and further opportunities, word spread, and local and further afar companies were attracted.
The likes of Sellafield Ltd, Electricity North West, Wigan Council and Tyson Building Contractors came along to the Centre for Advanced Technical Studies building to speak to young people about potential career and apprenticeship opportunities.
The event was designed for school leavers and college students to engage with companies from sectors including construction, engineering, finance, care, business & professional and hospitality.
Vice Principal, Employment & Skills, Alison Rushton said: “These events have been a huge success, with employers giving fantastic feedback on how pleased they were to see so many young people interested in apprenticeships, jobs and work experience.
This networking event has many benefits for employers, such as allowing them a great platform to promote their future job, work placements and apprenticeships, raise the profile of their business, along with the opportunity to work with the college to support any recruitment challenges and develop a future talent pool.
“It’s been a real benefit for both the large and small employers we have had in attendance as they get the chance to see the best candidates and liaise with our apprenticeships team to increase the opportunities to recruit the next generation of enthusiastic workers,” added Alison.
Helix Building Services who were in attendance added: “It was an honour to attend and to meet lots of young people who are interested in working within the construction industry. As a Wigan based business, we would love to take on some apprentices from the local area.”
And Neutronic Technologies were delighted with the event saying, “We had a great evening.” “It was a pleasure to meet so many students opting for a career in the engineering industry. Thank you to all the students who came and spoke to us at the Neutronic Technologies stand.”
